Reader's Journal #4
Dear Mrs. Zrihen,
I have been reading the book name Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul II by Jack Canfield. The reason I picked this book because it was really a book for teens. I'm not really a teen I am really a pre-teen but I can still understand what the book says. Now this book is about how being a teenager is like. It has diffrent sections of the book and each section is a teenager's life and actually the stories try to tell a lesson of how they failed and how you can succeed and solve that problem.
The three strategies I used before reading the book was that I skimmed and scanned for text features and some I found was bold prints, headings, illustrations, italics, and captions. I also ask myself questions about the book like what do I know about the book and are there pictures, titles or maps. I also predicted what might have happened in the story by looking at the cover and the title. The three strategies I've done during reading was skip when I see an unfamiliar word, keep reading, and go back to that unfamiliar word and figure what that word mean. I also stop reading and thought what I read so far in the story. And I also made inferences and thought about what I read about and try to learn from it.The last three strategies I done were after reading the story and my first was I wrote down what I read about what I learned in the story. I actually discussed with my cousin about the book and we had a good discussion and we agreed on trying to learn from this book. And I also drew conclusion and think about what predictions I made before and during reading.
The genre of this story is a memoir. Memoir is a kind of genre where it is a memory that you can learn a lesson from. The topic of this book is teenagers. The main idea of this book is that this book gives examples of problems and how can you solve them to be a good teenager. The supporting details for this story is diffrent sections of titles you can learn from. And diffrent steps of how being a good teen. The essential message of this book is.The essential message is " to be a good teenager you need a guide to help you through because it's hard for some. The text features I found were captions, italics, illustrations, headings, and subtitles.
In closing, I will like to say that this book was a really great book and taught me stuff I didn't about being a teenager. I will rate this book a ten out of ten. Again I enjoyed this book and I wish I can read more books like this.
